The effects of smoking on women have resulted in a full-blown epidemic according to the US Surgeon General. Smoking among women has increased 600 percent since 1950 in women's death rate for lung cancer which is a disease primarily caused by cigarette smoking. I have fought this nasty habit on and off for 36 years. If you are a woman and trying to quit smoking, please read on and learn some reasons why you should quit and find out how to quit as I have done for the third and FINAL time!
Where do I start? What would you like to hear? There is so much information you should be aware of that it can be overwhelming. How about the effects first.
Did you know…
…cancer as a direct result from smoking will cause an estimated 71,030 women to die this year from lung and bronchus cancer.
…the effects of smoking on women will kill an estimated 178,408 women each year in the United States.
…women who smoke are at a great risk of developing cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx (voice box), esophagus, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and uterine cervix.
…women who smoke and are postmenopausal have a lower bone density than women who never smoked.
…smoking is directly responsible for more than 90 percent of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or emphysema and chronic bronchitis deaths annually. Women outnumber men in deaths attributable to COPD.
This list can go on and on but I think you get the idea of my point. Although there are less women who smoke than men, the gap between men's and women's smoking rates are becoming vastly smaller. If you are a woman 35 or older, you are 12 times more likely than nonsmoking females to prematurely die from lung cancer and COPD.
Knowing the effects of smoking on women makes me want to urge you…no, implore you to quit. I know how hard this can be, believe me, I've done it. It is never too late to quit smoking! If you are serious about quitting, take a look at this and quit smoking today! It's worth a try and you'll be amazed at how fast it works. You will be surprised at how much better you will feel as your body starts to heal without nicotine in your system. If you don't try this, that's okay, just find something that you feel will work for you and reverse the effects of smoking on women.
